97 ( +1 | -1 ) Probably "Chess Related"...... but thanks chees for bringing it to everyone's attention!
Anyone who wants to kibitz live during this game should head over to gkchat.homeip.net/cgi-bin/cgiirc/irc.cgi as bucklehead suggests in thread gameknot.com/fmsg/chess/3058.shtml (URLs may need to be copy & pasted due to the weird things that GK can do to urls...).
Note that the game was originally scheduled to begin at 9:00 eastern time, 15:00 local time (that is, about 25 minutes before I write this post) however it has been pushed back 45 minutes and should begin in around 20m time. :)
91 ( +1 | -1 ) interesting gameIt was quite an exciting fight. Kramnik was following his preparation untill move 27 (quite amazing!) and got a promising endgame. While observing the game, I thought that Leko can't sacrifice the exchange, case the endgame was lost. But then again it proved to be drawn, but unfortunately Leko missed it (I guess with the Qh6 move). Of course one should recognize Kramniks incredible technique! The rook manouvres on the a file seemed misterious, but proved to be rather strong.
How will the match proceed now? Leko has lost the first game with white! It is the worse thing that could happen. But it is even worse than that -- Lekos trusted 1. e4 has failed. Note that todays game followed Leko-Bologan game untill move 17. Kramnik deviated with 17. ... Na5 and won! This is bad news for Lekos squad, seems they weren't ready for this line.
