News of the week
While I'm fascinated by the Republican elite's smear campaign against Ron Paul, I have to wonder if there have been other newsworthy events this week. For example, what is Bill Richardson up to?
It seems that he recently stumped at Google to promote his energy policy. One report on his visit presents it in a slightly negative light, and I'm not too thrilled about his support for "massive subsidies and tax incentives" to increase energy efficiency. However, subsidies for a sustainable solution is better than subsidies for unsustainable practices. Another report presented Richardson in a more positive light, and I especially like this quote: "I believe in choice so I will give three choices for topics."
He's pro-choice on everything! Also, he's fairly liberal on immigration, so we may expect to hear him weigh in on the recent Senate deal on immigration policy.
There's also the bizzare story of James Comey. Some are claiming that this illustrates the lawless nature of the Bush administration. I don't know what this story tells us, except that I was surprized to see John Ashcroft standing up for liberty; despite the demonization that Ashcroft suffered at the hands of the left, I think that we can see that he's a true conservative--a man with principles, even if they differ from our own (same could be said for Paul or Hagel). As the Bush administration has progressed, it seems to have tilted away from conservatisim and towards that power-hungry, megalomaniacal ideology called "neo-conservatism". While Bush himself may have had some conservative credentials at one point, it seems that he now has been fully corrupted by the ring of power.
