An idea that has been floated several times ever decade or so is secession by New York City from the state of New York. Fights over traffic congestion are sparking the debate this time around. An interesting observation is how the state of New York is on the decline with the city the only economic powerhouse remaining. I wonder if Upstate New York without New York City would really be as struggling as based on the facts as they are now. The state could potentially focus more on the problems Upstate and avoid the divisive fights that may block regional progress now.
