While reading about the extensions of subsidies in the Senate health care bill in some random post elsewhere, the following recurring thought came back up:
 
If people above the "official" poverty line, according to the mainstream Left, still need assistance, then doesn't that mean the "official" definition of poverty is meaningless?

I suspect the reason for that is the admission of accelerating rise in the cost of living would implicitly also bring wages vs inflation (and productivity in some circles) up for discussion. It's an economic policy chain reaction waiting to be triggered, more than likely destroying the career of whoever triggered it.

BTW: out of curiosity, would you know which episode that was? I don't remember seeing that one, and I used to watch it.
