What are AARP Medicare Supplement Plans?

Medicare is a specialized government program that provides health care insurance for elderly or disabled people with ages sixty five and older, which is a port of social security systems. The American Association of Retired Persons, or AARP, provides additional or supplementary insurance plans through different private insurance companies that help providing coverage on certain costs on health care that the main Medicare insurance does not or cannot cover.

The AARP presents a set of Medicare supplement plans that offer additional benefits that are not usually covered by the main Medicare insurance issued by the government. The plans are offered by private insurance companies rather than the federal government. People with eligible ages and conditions are the ones only allowed to purchase any of the AARP Medicare supplement plans.

Supplemental Medicare Insurance in California is always beneficial

Medicare is a social insurance program administered by the United States government, providing health insurance coverage to people who are aged 65 and over, or who meet other special criteria. Medicare operates similar to a single payer-health care system, but the key difference is that its coverage only extends to 80% of any given medical cost; the remaining 20% of the cost must be paid either via a supplemental insurance from a private company (normally requiring a monthly insurance premium), or from the patient’s own personal funds.

In general, all persons 65 years of age or older who have been legal residents of the United States for at least 5 years are eligible for Medicare. Also, all people with disabilities in the United States, so long as their condition(s) is/are congenital or otherwise permanent, are inherently entitled to Medicare, regardless of age. This is due to the fact that such disabled people are also inherently entitled to Social Security Disabilities Program (SSD); given their involvement in SSD, physically disabled people both young and old are automatically entitled to Medicare.

How to Choose Among the Medicare Supplement Plans

Medicare is a federal health insurance benefit. Those who are qualified for this health insurance benefit are people 65 years or older, people under 65 with disabilities, and people with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). It has four options – or parts – which you can choose from:  Plan A or Hospital Insurance, Plan B or Medical insurance, Plan C or Medicare Advantage Plans, and Plan D or prescription drug coverage.

As you acknowledge the fact that the original Medicare Plans A to D is a big help to finance your medical and health care bills and payments, it still does not cover all your finances. Usually, you still have to provide for the other expenses that are not covered by the original Medicare. That is why companies also offer different Medicare plans that cover the gaps left by Plans A to D.
