US world champion how much popularity would chess gain in america if the world champion was an american again?
dervish 14 ( +1 | -1 )
huge increase.. even more if it was a youngster who moved up in the world rankings quickly versus an immigrant whom had moved here recently..are there any?
olympio 11 ( +1 | -1 )
yes there is a young american-born american who has a serious chance of dominating in world class chess

And I think you will be up against me fighting in the finals for the world title! And the Indian flag will fly high at the end!!!!!!!! WE have plenty of geniuses, whiz-kids and talents in India also! Chess is becoming increasingly popular in this country. The most unfortunate thing is that almost noone can pursue as much as one wants due to money and various similar factors.

Olympio I can see that you are a very strong chessplayer. Invincible1 is also very strong too. Looks like he just challenged you to play a match. Maybe we will get to see this match?? Got to start somewhere ,can not start at the top.Come on now maybe a 5 game match between you two should definately be very interesting .-BBG Then I say just maybe the winner gets a shot at Leko.

BBG Good idea, but it isnt as much fun unless the world is watching!!!!! Anyway, maybe you are the world for one of us?? ;-)
I dont see any challenge from olympio. But I have sent him a message asking him to challenge me. However to be frank, I think he is a much better player than I. At least, his record is far more amazing than me! But in an OTB game, I think I might just be the better player!!! Oh well, for that we will have to wait till we meet up somehow, somtime, somewhere???
dervish 8 ( +1 | -1 )
olympio I like your attitude, but you must hurry .. you are 20 years old.. find sponsorship..
olympio 7 ( +1 | -1 )
so now the unification match has finally started. i await invincible1's challenge
bluebabygirl 23 ( +1 | -1 )
to either Why wait?? .You should just challenge him. I'm sure he will accept. This will be a real battle I think. Both players are very good ,both players are young ,both players have huge ego.-BBG
invincible1 62 ( +1 | -1 )
Hey Come on.... this is getting too serious! I fear going down in the eyes of GK and the world.. olympio seems to be a very strong player! Anyway, since he sent me a message and did not challenge directly, I will challenge. And for the same reason, I take white. Let the battle begin! bluebabygirl will be the arbiter and in case of any confusion or controversy, one has to approach her. She will be sponsoring the hundred thousand dollars and a kiss for the winnner! The second can bite the dust! And a draw, white wins....
invincible1 14 ( +1 | -1 )
World Championship has started. The world can watch this epic battle at board #1071978
bluebabygirl 30 ( +1 | -1 )
arbiter says . No ., white does not win if game is drawn . See one of the contestants has followed suit of the current contenders and made an outrageous demand immediately . Olympio has so far showed true sportsmanship. No outrageous demands from him as of yet. I will defer any arguments to my second adviser ,Cassia . She always knows best.

Hmmm... Methinks a hot US prospect would not lose 138 games on Gameknot, in fact, a hot US prospect shouldn't lose ANY games on Gameknot.

These days at age 20 if you haven't made it yet then you are over the hill and have to step aside for the next generation, Teimur Radjabov, Sergei Karjakin, David Howells and Kateryna Lahno et al. They are the future of World Chess.....sadly of course, none of the aforementioned are remotely American.

I would struggle to think of a truly American GM who would be able to handle any of the precocious kids I have just mentioned...and three of them are not yet in their teens !!

Kind regards,

bluebabygirl 40 ( +1 | -1 )
hmmmm.... Calmrolfe, did you forget about U.S. GM Larry Christianson??? Just my opinion but I think he wouldn't have too much problem playing them.Of course I am a big fan of his. And I have played him on another chess site . He played me because I played his daughter on that site . She also is a very strong player. I definately hold him in very high respect.-BBG . Also what about Yasser Seirwan???
nils1981 18 ( +1 | -1 )
Calmrolfe Look at olympio (at his past game history) and you'll se something funny and maybe take that back.
bluebabygirl 47 ( +1 | -1 )
to nils I went to look at Olympio 's past games . And it seems he resigned almost alll those 138 games for no apparent reason many after 3 or 5 moves. .However since then he appears to have won or drawn every game except a very few losses and some draws . He has a tremendous striaght win record after intially resigning most those 138 games. I THINK HE IS VERY STRONG. I ONLY TOOK A VERY QUICK LOOK THOUGH.-=bbg
olympio 42 ( +1 | -1 )
only one i've only really lost one game on gameknot and that was against hugothebest.. he played the polish and destroyed me. the rest were pointless resignations and timeouts (the timeout was accidental.. and when my winning streak was destroyed by that accidental timeout i got depressed and started resigning games till my rating was 900 so i wouldn't have to care anymore about a winning streak. then i began to work my way back up.
calmrolfe 85 ( +1 | -1 )
bbg How could I forget about Larry Christianson ? I didn't !! Nor Yasser Seirawan, who appears to be the best US player but is still a lowly No 71 in the world rankings, Radjabov has already zoomed past both the top US players on his mercurial rise up the rankings.

Here in England, which is a far smaller nation than USA, even we have four players ranked much higher than the US No1, including a 17 year old kid (Luke McShane). I don't know why it is but US players just can't cut it on the world stage anymore.

The new breed of rising champions are extremely dedicated and have a mental toughness far beyond their years. Can you seriously see Karjakin resigning matches en masse just because he had lost a couple of games ?

Kind regards,

PS Good luck olympio, it is good to have ambition. If you don't aim at the stars you certainly won't get there by accident !! I wish you well in your quest.
thumper 16 ( +1 | -1 )
You are... a savage Olympio. I thought I was challenging someone that was 'just' an average/strong player. Instead, I find myself in the clutches of the future champion!!!

to any My sources tell me that Olympio is going to an OTB tournament in Houston, Texas on October 11-12.Heres wishing him a great success there. At the very least it will give him valuable experience against strong competition . Can we look forward to recieving a post of your results after the event?? Olympio??--BBG
bluebabygirl 16 ( +1 | -1 )
tonlesu ?? Why make such comments??? I am very interested in this game. Who knows Olympio may be the future champion of GK. And certainly Invincible1 plays strong. --BBG
olympio 9 ( +1 | -1 )
definitely I plan on posting all my games here after the tournament to be analyzed scrutinized and terrified all the way to tim buk too.
bluebabygirl 76 ( +1 | -1 )
to Calmrolfe???? Well Yasser has beaten both Karpov and Kasparov before . Indeed you named some extremely strong talented young players . But have they beaten KASP AND KARP?? OK, maybe beating kasp or karp is not important anymore ,I dont know . But it would still seem to be an indicater of great talent to me !!!--Also very interesting your comments about American players not being able to cut it on the world stage anymore . Im certainly not disagreeing with you. But we will have our Fischer again someday and then the world will cry crocodile tears again!!! JUST LIKE THEY DID WHEN THE TITAN ROBERT JAMES FISCHER ROAMED THE PLANET CRUSHING GRANDMASTERS AS IF THEY WERE CHILDREN!!! lol --BBG
